Southwest Institute of Physics of China National Nuclear Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "SWIT") was established in 1965 and is affiliated to China National Nuclear Corporation. It is the earliest professional research institute in China dedicated to the research of controlled nuclear fusion and plasma physics, and the core unit for the research and development of fusion reactors in the "three-step" development strategy of nuclear energy. An important supporting unit for China's participation in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) program.
