China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited is the main force in the research, design, production, testing and support of naval weapons and equipment. It adheres to taking military scientific research and production tasks as its political responsibility and top priority. China National Machinery Research Institute Group Co., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as "CMEC") is responsible for the research and production of all main battle equipment of the Chinese Navy, represented by aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines. Its predecessor was the Machinery Science Research Institute of the Ministry of Machinery Industry, which was established in 1956 during the period of the founding of the People's Republic of China. China National Machinery Industry Corporation has been committed to the research and development as well as promotion services of manufacturing technologies (basic and common technologies) in China's equipment manufacturing industry. It has established 13 national-level and 28 provincial and ministerial-level innovation platforms, including key national laboratories and national engineering research centers. It also possesses 4 international cooperation bases and 71 international/national standardization committees and academic associations. It has 20 postdoctoral research workstations and master's and doctoral degree authorization points, and undertakes 21 scientific and technological journals.
